It feels so good to be back for East Bay FC Stompers striker Gustavo Tavera-Rico, assuming he finds happiness in finding the back of the net.

The veteran forward, back for his fifth season with the club after taking a hiatus, entered the match in the second half last Saturday and promptly brought the Stompers level. His late tally helped the club escape with a point from the 2-2 stalemate against Sonoma County Sol FC. Tavera-Rico was named NPSL National Player of the Week for the effort.

“GTR is one of those strikers that is strong when he goes to goal,” said East Bay FC Stompers manager Martin Sierra. “If you don’t respect his strength and ability he will put the ball in the back of the net.”

The Californian has now bagged 10 career goals for the Stompers. Tavera-Rico’s strike last weekend was his second of the season.

“I had to take the last two and half seasons off from the club for personal reasons, but I am glad to be back and trying to help the Stompers get to the next level,” Tavera-Rico said. “After all the time put in, I feel blessed that I was voted by the media to be the NPSL National Player of the Week. It means a lot to me to be recognized in the NPSL and across the whole U.S.”
