After bagging a hat trick last weekend, FC Arizona striker Cesar Mexia has been chosen as the Mitre National Player of the Week for Week 2 of the NPSL season, the league announced Friday.

Mexia’s three-tally performance came in a 3-3 draw last Saturday against ASC San Diego, formerly Albion SC. The NPSL Southwest Conference Division rivals were two of the better sides in the division last season, both finishing in the upper half of the table. FC Arizona went undefeated, producing 12 wins and four draws en route to winning the division. The club also only conceded three goals during the entire 2017 regular season.

“We are extremely proud of Cesar for all his leadership, hard work, and accomplishments from last year and so far this year,” FC Arizona owner and GM Scott Taylor said in a release. “This is a special group of guys this season.”

Mexia seems to have picked up right where he left off last season. The Mexican forward led his team in scoring last year and appears keen on replicating the feat again in 2018.

“I’m very happy to be presented this award,” Mexia said in a release. “This shows a commitment from the whole team. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for making this possible.”

Mexia and his FC Arizona teammates will host Oxnard Guerreros FC today at John Riggs Stadium. ASC San Diego has the week off and will return to action April 7 at home against the Riverside Coras.
