The currently forming National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) provided a status update Friday via a post on its website from league founder Peter Wilt.

Three cities have officially been accepted into the league thus far: Miami, Chattanooga and Connecticut. Four others, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Charlotte and Omaha, had their applications sent back with “requests for improvements.” And one market, Phoenix, had its application rejected.

The NISA also declared it “would be prepared to accept applications” from NASL clubs should the NASL lose its court battle with the U.S. Soccer Federation and fold, as the NASL claims it will if it proves unable to retain Division II status.

Additionally, the NISA ruled out any hope it had of beginning play in spring 2018. Wilt confirmed that the league’s start date will definitely be after the World Cup — July 2018 at the earliest, and if not, spring 2019.
